Film

I started making dance films during the COVID pandemic because there were no opportunities to share my work live. Up until very recently, dance was captured only in a fleeting moment, witnessed by the lucky few who happened to be in the room. That is an incredibly special experience! But it also meant that dance was not accessible to so many people. With dance films I could bring my work to a wider audience — even a global one! Not only can film make dance more accessible, but it has the potential to make dance more understandable. Dance films can help train an audience for what they should be looking for, drawing the eye to focus on the nuances of the movement, or important parts of the story. With dance film I can tell a story, both through the movement, and with what the camera captures. Finally, I see dance filmmaking as a playground in which to experiment with different editing techniques, dancing in unusual places, and telling unique stories.

If you are interested in working with me on a project, please get in touch via the contact form! I have made half a dozen dance films with students — on location in interesting places, in the home, even as a remote collaboration! I can film/edit a dance you already have choreographed, or bring you through the entire process from choreography to the final product!
